There are many benefits and tax credits available to seniors and people with disabilities, below we have listed the most common ones. Some clients have received upwards of $20,000 to assist them with home modifications.


 Ontario Senior Homeowners' Property Tax Grant

If you're a low-to-moderate income senior, you may be eligible for up to $500 back on your property taxes.

 

Home and Vehicle Modification Program

If you are making modifications to your home or vehicle to accommodate a disability and make less than $30,000 in a year, you could receive up to $15,000. However, this program intended use is to be used as a last resort.

 

Provincial Land Tax Deferral Program for Low-Income Seniors and Low-Income Persons with Disabilities

You can qualify for assisstance if your property was used as your principal residence for at least one year. The tax deferral applies to the tax increase in the current year and not to outstanding taxes.

 

Ontario Renovates Program

This program offers forgivable loans up to $20,000 to households occupied by people with disabilities who require special modifications to improve accessibility to their residence. The maximum forgivable loan amount varies by municipality.


Disability tax credit

The Disability Tax Credit is retroactive up to 10 years which can result in a lump sum payment in the thousands.
